The selected candidate will support the Location and Design team through photogrammetry, land survey, and geographic information systems support. The individual will be responsible for mapping complete and accurate drawings; providing technical assistance and guidance related to survey principles and roadway and hydraulic design; and providing support to VDOT staff for data access and software functionality. As needed, the individual will also coordinate with VDOT staff and external stakeholders to perform analysis and reporting of survey and spatial data to meet the needs of the program and permit requirements.

Experience: applying photogrammetric & surveying principles and practices of land surveying; with ESRI GIS desktop software and extensions, GIS data and applications. Working knowledge of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects ( APELSCIDLA ) Board rules and regulations. Ability to: coordinate multiple functions; communicate effectively orally and in writing; read and interpret highway plans; develop, interpret, apply and make changes to policies and procedures; interpret aerial imagery. Skill in: the use of field surveying instruments; the use of computers and software applications to include digital terrain modeling, photogrammetry and survey software; the use of photogrammetric instruments, workstations and related software for photogrammetric data analysis and data processing; providing excellent customer service. Knowledge of: photogrammetry requirements as related to transportation projects; photogrammetric practices, principles and procedures; GIS theory and applications as well as ESRI geodatabase schema and behavior. Proficient in the use of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office including Access and Excel, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcInfo Workstation, ArcView or other ESRI desktop software products. Knowledge and ability to plan aerial photography missions.
Land Surveyor's or Survey Photogrammetrist license required.
BS in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering or related field; or equivalent experience or training may substitute for degree. Working knowledge of VDOT GIS applications and GIS operations, policies, procedures, and standards. Knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop extensions, ArcGIS Spatial Analyst and ArcGIS 3D Analyst.
Fingerprint-based Criminal History Background Check and DMV Record Check are required.
If licensure is from another state, selected candidate must:
1. Provide licensure credentials from any other state at the interview or upon the hiring manager's request
2. Provide a copy of his or her application to DPOR for Virginia Licensure as a Land Surveyor or Survey Photogrammetrist, along with proof of payment for the same, to their immediate supervisor and Human Resources on or before the first day of work.
3. Obtain Virginia licensure within the 12 month employee probationary period.
