Chesterfield County is seeking an Engineering Supervisor to manage the operation and overall performance of the Utilities Department's Development section. Maintains Utilities' Water and Wastewater Facilities Plan to include short and long range plans for expansion of the public water and wastewater systems; ensures comprehensive reviews are performed on all private development requests such as zoning, tentative subdivisions, and designs of water and wastewater facilities associated with subdivisions and site plans for compliance with all local, state and federal laws, standards and ordinances; provides guidance and direction to consulting engineers; updates and develops design standards in keeping with new technology and industry standards; performs special studies associated with running a public water and wastewater utility; interfaces with Economic Development and other Community Development departments on a routine basis; collaborates with Fire Department on mutual public safety matters; oversees the operation and maintenance of the hydraulic water and sewer models used for system evaluations; and responsible for overseeing the Department's VDH Local Review and Cross Connection Control and Backflow Prevention Program. Manages and supervises a team of 13 employees by applying continuous quality principles, encouraging teamwork and collaboration, and fostering excellent customer service. Perform other work as required. Successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in engineering or related field. Professional engineer's license preferred. Five years of work experience in water and wastewater engineering and/or construction with preference for direct public utility employment. Three years of management/supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Excellent customer service skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities with a focus on collaboration and teamwork in order to get work done on time with minimal oversight. Skill in personal computers and related software applications. Valid driver's license and good driving record required. Must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
